The Independent is a joint venture between Constructive Ventures Inc. and Aspen Heights, both based in Austin. It was designed by Austin architectural firm Rhode: Partners, with engineering from Urban Design Group, Garza Bury, and LAM+DCI Consulting Engineers. Developers envision the $300 million project, “as a gleaming, white Jenga-like tower” at the northeast corner of West Third Street and West Avenue.
This high rise will be the tallest residential building west of the Mississippi River above Austin’s skyline. Developers have laid out the specifics for the 685-foot, 58-story condominium tower to be located downtown. Renderings show the building with offset floor sections that make it look something like an uneven stack of books.
The Independent will have a total of 950,000 square feet, including 491,000 square feet that will be for purchase. Developers plan to have 13,500 square feet of retail on the ground floor. The building will have 370 units, ranging from 675 square-foot one-bedroom units to 3,485 square-foot three bedroom floor plans. Residents will have access to amenities including a dog park and lounge, children’s play areas, a pool, fitness rooms, sky lounge and spa.
Groundbreaking and construction timelines have yet to be unveiled. Financing has not yet been finalized, according to the Austin American-Statesman. If completed, The tower will become the tallest building in Austin.
